Amy excels in East Midlands  4*

The East Midlands 4* was held at the Grantham Meres Leisure Centre on Saturday the 7th and Sunday 9th January 2012.

In the Cadet event on Saturday, Amy faced a challenge as she had drawn a tough group, which included Tin-Tin Ho, Kayleigh Forster and Bhavika Mistry. Even though she was expected to come third in her group, her first match against Kayleigh Forster went by in a flash, a straight 3-0 win, which left Kayleigh shell shocked.  Then after comfortably beating Bhavika Mistry, Amy faced the 1st feed for the first time. In good form, Amy gave Tin-Tin a run for her money losing 7,8,12.

After coming runner up in her group, Amy went on to the next round to play Nicole Bird from Northamptonshire, winning again in 3 straight sets. In the last 8, she faced Maria Tsaptsinos, the 2nd seed from Berkshire, for the second time in the season. After receiving decent results from the National Championships (9, 5, 6) Amy Topped this with 9, 9, 6 just losing out on close points, but showing that she has improved since their last encounter. Tin-Tin went on to win the competition in 5 against Maria.

On Sunday, the Junior and Banded events, Amy didn’t get off to a flying start losing to Sharlene Williams of Wales in 4, but beat Rhiannon Evans in 3 straight in the group stage. After a nervous start to the event, Amy managed to pick herself up to take on the challenge of Daniella Gray, ranked slightly higher, Amy lost in 4 but managing to turn the 3rd game around winning 11-2.

In the Junior Event, Amy was unlucky coming third due to count back in the group, after losing to Vicky Smith in 3 (6,5,8) and to Hiba Feredj in 5, but managing to beat higher ranked Emily Roys,  also from the East Midlands Regional Squad, 3-1! Emily just scraped 2nd in countback.

Over the weekend, a few other players from Draycott also attended some events including: Adam Cross, Georgina Walker and Sigourney Ducksbury along with Aman Rashid from Knighton Park.

Overall a good performance, but some points to work on.
